Companion Planting For Better Results

 

Companion planting is the planting of different crops in proximity to each other for pest control, pollination, and providing habitat for beneficial creatures. The purpose of companion planting is to increase crop productivity..

 

Just like people plants like to hang out with other plants that they like. Scientific studies have confirmed that some combinations of proximity planting have real benefits.

 

Onions for example do well planted next to beats and carrots. (left)

 

Basil & Pepper plants make great companions.  It's claimed that growing basil next to peppers boosts their flavor, and may help to repel some common garden pests, such as aphids, spider mites, thrips, mosquitoes, and flies. (below)
